Sharma

The mudras are symbolic ritual gesture in Buddhism and Hinduism. While a few, require the involvement of the entire body but most are done with the use of hands and fingers. Mudra is used in the iconography of Hindu and Buddhist art of the Indian subcontinent and described in the scriptures, such as Natya??stra, which lists 24 asa?yuta("separated", meaning "one-hand") and 13 sa?yuta ("joined", meaning "two-hand") mudras. Mudra positions are usually formed by both the hand and the fingers. Along with ?sanas ("seated postures"), they are employed statically in the meditation and dynamically in the N??ya practice of Hinduism. One hundred and eight mudras are used in tantric rituals.
