Dvitva: The Divine Couple

Kabeendra

This finely crafted sculpture represents Hindu god couple (Dvitva in Sanskrit), Shiva - the destroyer, recycler and regenerator of universe and all life, and his consort Parvati, considered the mother of the whole universe in Hinduism. Fittingly depicting Shiva?s auspiciousness and his might as the god of gods, while balancing his personality with his iconographical attributes -- his third eye on the forehead, the snake Vasuki around his neck, the adorning crescent moon, the holy river Ganga flowing from his matted hair, the trishula as his weapon and damaru, the two-headed drum, the amelioration incorporated in the sculpture is par excellence. The serenity is underlined by the depiction of Parvathi through her gentle and nurturing personality.
